We’re now well in to spring and the last month has seen me do more carp fishing than usual. I know for many of you, it’s the only species you fish for, and that’s the beauty of angling of course as it can be to each of us what we want it to be.

I'm a fan of the old traditional favourites

SBS Baits has brought out some great baits in recent times – and I use them myself – but I still fish a lot with the old traditional ones such as M1 and M2. It’s more than just a confidence thing though; they actually work, and why change a winning formula?

And don’t forget to dip

As well as the boilies I’m also a fan of SBS dips. If you’ve never tried them before then why not go for something like All Season Corn, which is very versatile allowing you to flavour a whole range of different baits. I’ve got a variety of dips in my armoury and it’s pretty unusual for me to go fishing without some glugged baits in my bag.

The common above was caught in a torrential downpour, but as I often say, it doesn’t bother the fish as they are wet already. The only issues for the angler is how to keep your camera dry and how to stay safe on the bank. The former is solved by keeping the camera under the umbrella (although you will be outside) and the latter by common sense.

Like most other specimen anglers, I love night fishing and it’s scenes like the one above that make it worthwhile even if you blank on the fish front. Stretched out on a bedchair, with an open shelter, what a great way to welcome a new day in.

Of course though it’s all about the fish and I landed a grass carp during the month, as well as numerous commons and mirrors. The fish was caught on a 14mm M2 pop-up by the way, in reference to my previous comments about the traditional range of SBS baits.

If you’re into angling videos, then check out my YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/stewartbloor). As that’s what I’m fishing with, SBS Baits gets regular mentions and features. I’m asked three questions more than any other put together. ‘What did you catch it on?’, ‘How big was it?’ and ‘Where is the swim?’ Well I may not always be able to help you with the last two, especially the final one, and I don’t always weigh my catches. But I can definitely put you on the first.
