The hours spent at Rainbow Lake are always special for me because we have the chance to catch a personal record up to the last minute at one of the best known lakes for carp anglers. It is always special moment in my life when my mates achieve great results and hold a real big catch in their hands with the assistance of SBS baits. In the previous part of this series we introduced some giant carp that we caught in the first days of the session, which is why we were facing the following days with more hopes.

Laci could make a new note in his record book with this giant carp over 30 kg

Unfortunately the cold and rainy weather did not last long. A warm weather front arrived and thanks to the higher water temperature the warning signal reminded the carp to spawn. In the shallow parts of the lake we heard splashing water hour on hour like when the kids are playing tag in the paddling-pool.

Thanks to the warm weather it was a busy time in the shallow parts of the lake

Nature started to wake up with the morning sunrise

We only had a few options to find shallow areas in front of our camp at peg #19, most of the area has a water depth from 3 to 9 meters. During this period we tried to put our rigs close to the shore in the shallow water. Even in the muddy water we used a high visibility orange coloured Cranberry flavoured fluro pop up with a PVA mesh filled with an attracting stick mix made of Flumino Groundbait and Flumino Groundbait Mixer. However it was not easy to catch carp because of the spawning, the smaller specimens in relation to Lake Rainbow norm were between 13 and 18 kg and they liked this bait combination.

Carp menu for today: Flumino Groundbait filled into PVA mesh and Cranberry pop up boosted with Powder Dip

All set, let's wait for the first bite

We just weighted a sweet-toothed…

I got a nice common of 20 kg with the crucian-rod, how Laci called it…

We didn’t think that we would yearn for those rainy, cold, stormy days. We had most of our catches of bigger specimens then, from the deeper water. I had faith in the Ace Lobworm boilie, which gave us the key for success so many times. I thought, maybe the time had come and I would have the chance to beat my personal best.

If I go fishing, Ace Lobworm boilies are always with me

20+ Premium boilies are made specifically to catch big carp, we recommend pre-drilling the harder bait before putting it on the hair

In the blowing wind I woke up to the sound of my screaming bite alarm. I jumped out of the bivvy and after a few minutes playing with the fish Laci arrived and we started to chase after the fish. Luckily during this time the main line did not get stuck on the underwater snags, so after a few minutes action we admired the heavy old mirror gasping on the unhooking mat. The scale showed 27.80 kg (61.29 lbs.) so I confirmed happily, that this carp is my new personal best. Although we recorded this scene in front of the camera, to live through an experience like it is different. I wish you all could relive the same moment at least once in your lives… ;)

My new personal best: 27.80 kg (61.29 lbs.)

After the first part of our series of videos recorded at Rainbow we got a lot of questions with regard to the feeding and baiting techniques and also about the rig accessories, lines, hooklinks or hooks. These small things always play an important role and we are always happy to share these details with all of you. Join us in the third part of the series and we will show you some useful tips and tricks.

Beautiful Rainbow Lake during the day…

… and early morning
