Question:

"I would be really pleased to watch more SBS videos where you can provide more info about rigs and knots. For example, added to the boilie fishing I most often use feeder rods if I have only few hours to fish. Would you be so kind as to show how to make a method rig that you are using?"

Answer:

To tell you the truth, I very often take my feeder rods in my hand also. When I have only a few hours to go out, I much prefer this stirring style of fishing, and of course my goal is to catch some nice carp. Nowadays, the method feeder is one of the most consistent techniques and many feeder anglers having great success with this method. The point is that we can hide our hookbait within the groundbait (usually with high fishmeal content) compressed at the top of the feeder. As soon as the system hits the water, the compressed ingredients start to mould around the feeder and when the fish sucks up the groundbait the hookbait around it pops into its mouth easily.

I really do not like the Xmas-tree rigs (how myself and my mates refer to them) and I always try to keep rigs as simple as I can. The only extraordinary accessory I use is a Size 8 Ring Swivel, which fits exactly in the hole of the feeder. I tie this with a simple clinch-knot to the mainline and push back the swivel to the inline method feeder's hole. Finally, with a simple loop, I add my ca. 4-inch hooklink with a small, 8 mm Fluro Mini Pop Up to the Ring Swivel and that is it. I believe, that the free movement of the hooklink - thanks to the Ring Swivel - makes it easier to turn back the hook and the hookbait to the top of the feeder when we fill it up with groundbait or semi-soaked pellets before casting out.

With the illustration below and also with the video at the bottom of this article I am going to show you all of the details on how I make my method feeder rig for catching carp!

When I am targeting carp, I always choose a bigger size inline method feeder with a hole suitably sized to hold the Size 8 Ring Swivel nice and tight

The soft and sinking Challenger hooklink is a good choice for this method as well

Important to remember - you can avoid ‘cracking’ these small Pop Ups if you use a fine and thin splicing needle

This useful device ensures that perfectly formed feeders full of bait drop out each and every time. It is not just looking nice but, because of the fixed size and weight, we can cast it easily to the right spot
